Each year, the Suffolk County Music Educators' Association selects many talented students in the areas of Band, Orchestra, and Chorus to be a part of an All-County Ensemble. Students are nominated by their school music teacher and SCMEA Chairpeople select qualified students from the pool of nominations. Students are encouraged to perform a NYSSMA solo each year and their score and ranking at NYSSMA is one of the criteria that is considered when determining whether a student will be selected to an All-County ensemble along with their teacher's comments and recommendation. Being selected to participate in a SCMEA All-County ensemble is a very high honor and reflects highly on the dedication and talent of the student as well as the support that the student receives from their family.
