Good Morning and happy last Monday of our school year. None of us ever thought that the school year would go like this, did we? I hope that you all have a fantastic summer vacation and that you make some happy memories! I can’t wait to see everyone back in school (hopefully) in September! For those of you in Fifth Grade and are in Chorus, I hope that you consider joining my Show Choir at the Middle School next year! For now, here are our last set of videos for this school year.
Our first selection this week is not actually a video at all, but rather an interview with a very famous piano player named Michael Chertock. Right now, he plays with a group called the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. He calls himself a keyboardist, rather than a pianist. Why do you think he calls himself that? In this interview, he talks a lot about his influences that helped inspire him to be a musician. Even if it is not musical, who inspires you?

ur second selection is from the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, UK. The video is of a performance by a Children’s Choir at the closing ceremony. They are singing John Lennon’s song called, “Imagine.” How do you think these children got picked? How cool would it be to be able to perform in a place like this with thousands of people watching you both in person and on television across the world?

Have you ever heard of the band called Kool and the Gang? I am guessing not – but even if you haven’t, I’m willing to bet that you have heard at least one of their songs called “Celebration.” Here is a video of a group called Perpetuum Jazzille singing a cover of their song. What do you think of their performance? Have you ever seen a choir performing where each singer gets their own microphone? Which performance do you like better and why?

Ben Folds is an incredible musician. If you have never listened to any of his music, I encourage you to. Here are two videos that I think you would like. The first is a video of him performing at a New Year’s Eve party in Sydney, Australia and performing a cover of a very famous song called “Video killed the Radio Star.” The song was in fact the very first ever music video played on MTV! The second video is even more awesome. Watch as Ben Folds composes an entire piece of music for an orchestra in ten minutes!

What if you could dance and no one would see you? What if you could be in public and you had the confidence to dance like nobody was watching? Well, here is a video by the Piano Guys about people dancing in the grocery store – would you feel confidant to do that?

My final Piano Guys video of the year is of a song that Rachel Platten performed called “Fight Song.” We have all been fighting so hard to get through the last few months and none of it has been easy. I am so proud of all of you for all that you have done to weather this storm.
