I am sharing the following information with you regarding an outside organization which is not affiliated with the Islip School District. MYO is a wonderful organization which provides children with access to quality choral music education with a focus on healthy singing habits as well as giving students additional performance opportunities outside of school. There are several auditioned choirs in which our students may join. Suffolk Treble Choir under the direction of Craig Knapp and Suffolk Concert Choir under the direction of Melanie Dominick. The choirs perform three concerts each year. Joining these groups allow your child to have more exposure to choral music and have the opportunity to meet other students with the same passion for singing that they have. Mr. Knapp is a past president of SCMEA (The Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association) and has conducted many All-County honor choirs and I am positive that your children will benefit greatly from singing with him. Mrs. Dominick is also a past All-County conductor and has an extensive background in choral music from which students will learn so much!
Students who are entering Grades 4-6 in the fall would be joining the Suffolk Childrens’ Choir with Mr. Knapp. Those students entering Grades 7-8 in the fall would be joining the Suffolk Concert Choir with Mrs. Dominick. Full descriptions of the groups can be found on the MYO website.
Auditions are being held on June 9, 2018. If your child performed at NYSSMA, they may absolutely use their NYSSMA solo as their audition piece. They would need to bring a CD player and a CD to the audition. If students are not involved in NYSSMA, they can certainly sing an excerpt from either their TrebleMakers music, IMS Chorus music, IMS Show Choir music, or CRES Chorus music. I can provide them with a recording to use.
To schedule an audition, please visit www.myo.org/auditions. There you will find a list of frequently asked questions about MYO and there is a $25 non-refundable audition fee.
If you have any additional questions about MYO, please feel free to reach out to me. Many current and former CRES and IMS students have been a part of this organization and recommend it highly!

Third Grade students have now learned about the Woodwind instruments and we are on to the Brass Family. The Brass Family at CRES includes the Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, and Horn. Please visit the Brass Family Page to learn more!
For the majority of April and May, THIRD GRADE students in Mr. Baur's music classes will be learning about the instruments of the Band and Orchestra so that they may begin to learn an instrument in FOURTH GRADE. Music classes will include discussions of each instrument that they may choose to learn to play, as well as feature videos exemplars, and live in-class demonstrations of the instruments by some of our fifth grade students!
We are starting our journey through the instruments with the WOODWIND FAMILY.
